Today marks one of the busiest travel days of the year as thousands of families across Ontario head out for a March break getaway.
About 107,000 people are expected to pass through Toronto’s Pearson airport on Friday, exceeding the daily average of 95,000 passengers.
"In the last hour alone, it has gotten quite a bit busier here in Terminal 3," said CBC reporter Linda Ward at about 8 a.m. ET. "Everybody in line seems to be taking the delay in stride. They seem to have planned ahead."
There have been no major flight delays or cancellations so far, but airport officials say they expect lines to move more slowly later in the day.
A poll released Thursday by CIBC found that 12 per cent of Canadians were planning to take a vacation sometime this month.
The midwinter break in Ontario schools runs from March 11 to 15.
