Durham Regional police said Friday they are looking for several suspects in connection with a mass shooting in Whitby, just east of Toronto.

Four males were shot inside an elevator in an apartment building at about 12:30 on Thursday afternoon.

One of the males is in critical condition. The others are expected to recover from their injuries.

A fifth person - a 17-year-old male- was hit by shrapnel.

Investigators say they are searching for three or four suspects, who they believe carried out the shooting.

Police have not released any names.
