Toronto police conducted sweeps of Toronto Community Housing buildings on Friday in search of drugs and guns in the wake of three recent deadly shootings at TCH buildings.
Police confirmed the operation to CBC News on Friday morning but said they have made no arrests. They could also not confirm reports that guns were seized.
The searches were focused on common areas of TCH properties, where warrants are not required.
The searches come in the wake of three shootings at TCH properties since the New Year that have claimed the lives of teens:
- Tyson Bailey, 15. Shot multiple times in the stairway of a TCH apartment building at 605 Whitside Place in Regent Park on Jan. 18.
- St. Aubyn Rodney, 15. Shot and killed by a single gunshot at 40 Turf Grassway, a TCH building near the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West on Feb. 11. A 17-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in Rodney’s death.
- Jarvis Montaque, 15. Fatally shot as he stood with a group of friends outside his TCH apartment on Sunday Feb. 17.
