Police in southwestern Ontario have determined the identity of a woman whose dismembered torso was found in a garbage bin outside an apartment building in Kitchener, Ont., last weekend.

Waterloo Regional Police issued a news release on Tuesday indicating that they had identified the victim as Kelsey Louise Felker, 24, of Kitchener.

Police say they are still investigating. A command post remains in place at 250 Frederick St.

The release said that "the post-mortem examination into the cause of death is continuing."

The victim's torso was discovered on Saturday morning.

It was wrapped in a black T-shirt that said "Forget princess, I want to be a vampire."

Police had released a picture of a similar T-shirt, in hopes of obtaining tips from the public.

On Tuesday, police said that the information they received "was an important factor leading to the identity of deceased."

Within the last six months, police in southern Ontario have been involved in at least two other investigations involving dismembered victims.

Last August, parts of a missing Toronto woman were found in two cities and her torso was discovered in a suitcase floating in Lake Ontario. The victim's former boyfriend was subsequently charged with second-degree murder.

Also in August, the torso of a missing New York state woman was found in the lower Niagara River. Additional remains were found days later.
