Police shot the driver of this hearse, which police say was stolen from an Oshawa funeral home on Boxing Day. The man, who was sent to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, now faces 23 charges, including three counts of attempted murder. (CBC)

A man is facing almost two dozen charges in connection to a bizarre Boxing Day incident in which police shot a suspect who had allegedly stolen a hearse from an Oshawa funeral home.
The 24-year-old man is facing 23 charges, including three counts of attempted murder, in connection to the incident.
Durham Regional Police say the man broke into the McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home in the area of King Street East and Charles Street at around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police were called to the scene and waited outside. About an hour later, the stolen hearse was driven through the funeral home’s garage doors.
The driver dodged several police cars and crossed a three-lane road before jumping a sidewalk and eventually smashing into a concrete bench.
At some point during the encounter, the driver was shot by police.
He is being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has six investigators probing the shooting.
Legislation requires the SIU to investigate any time someone is injured during an altercation with police.
