A young father shot dead in northwest Toronto had dreams of being an actor and was a well-liked member of the community, friends and family said Wednesday.

Leonard Charles Fullerton, 26, was shot just after 4 p.m. Tuesday following an argument outside an apartment building on Denarda Street, near the corner of Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue West.

Witnesses told CBC they heard multiple shots before Fullerton fell to the ground. He later died in hospital.

A man fled the scene in a silver four-door car, according to police. He is described as black with a light complexion, six feet tall with a thin build and wearing dark clothing. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The victim's father, Leaford Fullerton, told CBC News that his son wanted to be an actor and leaves behind two children.

His slain son had been working as a mentor at a youth centre in the last year of his life.

Leonard Fullerton had once faced charges stemming from a police gun-and-gang investigation, though the charges were later dropped.

His former lawyer, Selwyn Pieters, said that Fullerton was a positive role model for the community.

"I found Mr. Fullerton to be someone who was charismatic. He was personable, he was friendly, he was well-known in the community of young people with whom he interacted," Pieters told CBC News on Wednesday.

More violence in the northwest

A few hours after the shooting that killed Fullerton, two people were shot on Falstaff Avenue, in the Jane Street-Highway 401 area.

One victim, a 20-year-old male, was shot several times in the torso in a stairwell at 40 Falstaff.

The second victim was found by EMS responders across the street, at a community centre at 17 Falstaff. The 17-year-old male had been shot multiple times in the head.

Both shootings happened at about 8:10 p.m.

Police have not released any information about the identity of the victims or any description of suspects.

Both victims were taken to hospital, but there was no word on their condition.

Police have obtained security tape from the area and are looking for public assistance in finding suspects.
