New Jersey State Police say it was driver error that caused a bus from Toronto to crash earlier this month, however the driver will not face criminal charges.

A total of 23 of the 57 people on the bus were injured when it went off an exit ramp on Interstate 80 and crashed into an embankment early in the morning on Oct. 6.

All of the injured were treated and released from hospital.

The bus was carrying members of a Seventh Day Adventists church group to a church event in Brooklyn, New York.

At the time the driver, Neville Larmond of Brampton, said the accident was caused by another driver cutting him off.

Sgt. Adam Grossman told CBC News on Tuesday that the police investigation revealed Larmond had failed to control the bus.

Larmond could face a fine or points taken off his licence, but he will not face any criminal charges.
