Gulam Imran could only cry after his house was left badly damaged by a suspicious fire in the city's east end.

The blaze happened Tuesday in the early morning hours in a residential area located near Pharmacy Avenue and the Danforth. The blaze destroyed one home and badly damaged three others, including the house Imran bought just 18 months ago.

The fire caused massive smoke and water damage to his home.

"You can see the roof, it's totally burned," he told CBC News. "I couldn't control myself. I was crying."

Ontario's fire marshal is investigating the fire, which broke out at a house under construction at 141 Byng Ave.

Two other homes in the area were found doused with gasoline on Tuesday.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $1.25 million.

The investigation is expected to take up to six weeks. One man was questioned and has since been released.

For now Imran will have to reside in a hotel while he works out other living arrangements
