While Toronto police seek a male suspect who broke into six homes in the same night in south Etobicoke, it appears that yet another break-in has been attempted in the neighbourhood.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, somebody tried to break into a home, just a few doors down from another residence that had been broken into the night before.

Wednesday’s incident occurred about 24 hours after six homes were broken into during the early hours of Tuesday morning, between midnight and 5 a.m., in an area bounded by Bloor Street West, Islington Avenue, The Queensway and the Humber River.

Police say that some of the break-ins involved theft. At least one woman was sexually assaulted after the intruder broke into her home.

The male suspect is said to be six feet tall with a slim build.

Police say they will provide further details about the suspect as they become available.

Suspect scared off

One woman whose house was broken into Tuesday told CBC News that she woke up to the sounds of her dogs barking at about 3 a.m.

"They were upset, they were running out," said the woman, who did not want to be publicly identified.

Moments later, she became aware of someone flashing a light in her face and then a man grabbed her arm.

She screamed, the intruder ran and the victim and her husband immediately called police.

The suspect had torn a window screen when making his way into the home.

That night, police flooded the neighbourhood. Two canine units were brought in and a police helicopter patrolled overhead.

But the suspect was not found.

Hours later, police told the public about what had happened and appealed for them to report any suspicious items found on their properties, or anything strange that may have been captured on camera by home security systems.

Police issued a news release late Wednesday afternoon to say the public response had been "extremely helpful," though investigators still do not have a more detailed suspect description to report.

Investigators say there "will be an increased police presence in the area, which will include door-to-door canvassing."
