Two people have died after separate crashes on Highway 407 and the Gardiner Expressway on Friday morning.

A 52-year-old Bramalea woman died after her vehicle was hit from behind by a garbage truck on the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 just west of Yonge Street at around 8 a.m., said Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Dave Woodford.

The woman, the only person in the vehicle, was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The eastbound lanes of the highway have been closed from Bathurst Street to Yonge Street as police investigate. No charges have been filed so far.

Meanwhile, the Gardiner Expressway was shut down in both directions for about six hours in the morning after a man in his 30s died overnight in a motorcycle crash near the Humber Bridge.

He was heading eastbound at about 1 a.m., when he lost control, hit a barrier and was tossed into the westbound lanes of the expressway.

He was then hit by a vehicle in the westbound lane.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Police believe the motorcycle was travelling at a high rate of speed before the incident.

The Gardiner remained closed until just after 7 a.m.
