Accused Eaton Centre shooter’s new lawyer defended Rafferty

The man accused in a deadly shooting at the Eaton Centre has a new lawyer.
Christopher Husbands faces two first-degree murder charges, five attempted murder charges and a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with the June 2 shooting at the Toronto shopping mall.
One man died at the scene of the shooting in the food court in the north end of the mall, while another man succumbed to his injuries in hospital days later. Husbands turned himself into police on the Monday following the Saturday night shooting.
Husbands made a brief appearance in a Toronto court on Wednesday morning, during which it was announced that defence lawyer Dirk Derstine will now represent him.
Derstine previously represented Michael Rafferty, the man who was convicted of the kidnapping, sexual assault and first-degree murder of Ontario schoolgirl Victoria (Tori) Stafford.
According to Derstine's website, he has served as counsel in more than 30 murder trials during his career.
