Simcoe Day brings closings, shorter hours

The Simcoe Day holiday on Monday will result in a number of closures or shortened hours for services across Toronto.
As a result of the civic holiday, banks, schools and all government offices will be closed, as will public libraries.
There will be no mail delivery or collection on Monday and post offices will be closed, although postal outlets operated by the private sector may be open.
In terms of retail, major shopping malls like the Eaton Centre, Square One, Pacific Mall and Vaughan Mills will be open.
And, tourism attractions like the Toronto Zoo, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Ontario Science Centre will operate with regular hours. The AGO will not be open Monday, in keeping with its regular schedule.
About 350 LCBO stores across Ontario will be open, with a full list of openings available online. Select Beer Stores will be open, as well, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In honour of the day's namesake, John Graves Simcoe, celebrations will be held downtown at Fort York. Simcoe served as the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada and also founded Toronto in 1793.
