Ford and Honda have announced product recalls affecting tens of thousands of vehicles in Canada.
Ford is recalling 2013 Escapes equipped with 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines because fuel lines can crack and spill gasoline, causing engine fires.
While there are no reports of injuries, Ford says it has three reports of fires: two at the factory and one while a customer was driving an Escape. Affected models can be brought to Ford dealerships to be fixed free of charge.
The recall affects 11,500 Escapes in the U.S. and Canada. Only 4,800 have been sold to customers. The rest are sitting in warehouses or on dealer lots and will be fixed before being sold, the company said in a release.
Other model years of Escapes are not affected; nor are Escapes with other engine types. Likewise, other Ford vehicles with 1.6-litre engines are unaffected.
Last month, Ford announced a separate recall of more than 10,000 Escapes to fix carpet padding that could interfere with braking.
Meanwhile, Honda Canada is recalling 20,920 model-year 2012 CR-V vehicles and about 800 model-year 2013 Acura ILX vehicles. In total, the company is recalling more than 172,000 vehicles across the U.S. and Canada.
The automaker says the front door latches and, in some CR-V vehicles, the interior front door handles can become partially disengaged, causing the door to open unexpectedly.
No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue. Honda says it will begin mailing notifications to affected owners in mid-August or customers can check at honda.ca/recalls.
