A group of 10 to 15 men fled the scene of a shooting moments after the end of a Canada Day fireworks display in Toronto's east end, police say.
Thousands of people were in the Woodbine Beach area around 10:30 p.m. ET on Sunday when shots were fired near Winner's Circle and Lake Shore Boulevard.
A 21-year-old male was shot in the chest but his injuries are considered non-life-threatening, police said. He was with a group of friends who got into an altercation with another group of 10 to 15 men.
One witness who saw the victim crumple after being hit, says she was shocked by the shooting, which is one of several that have occurred in busy parts of the city in recent weeks.
Toronto police were at the scene Monday of the Canadian Day shooting to investigate. (Trevor Dunn/CBC)"It is frightening that a stray bullet, or whatever it was that was in our area, could have hit anybody," Rose Letto told CBC News on Monday.
Detectives revisited the shooting scene Monday morning. They have yet to announce any arrests, or descriptions of any suspects.
A month ago, a shooting inside a food court at the Eaton Centre left two men dead and five people injured.
Just over two weeks later, a man was killed in a shooting on a crowded patio in Little Italy, where patrons had gathered to watch a European Cup soccer match.
