Street food vendors may be allowed to expand menus

Toronto's street food vendors may soon be able to sell more than just hot dogs if the recommendations of a city report are approved.
The director of the city's municipal standards and licensing department recommended in a report released Thursday that existing bylaws should be relaxed so street food vendors currently working in the city can expand their menus. Currently, vendors are only permitted to sell pre-cooked hot dogs and sausages.
Vendors who now want to expand their menus will first have to get approval from Toronto public health officials.
They also may have to make modifications to their carts.
City council's licensing and standards committee will consider the report next Thursday. Toronto's medical officer of health would have to approve the proposed changes before they can be implemented.
