Toronto police are looking for suspects after a series of violent, overnight robberies in the square behind College Park, near the intersection of Yonge and College streets.

On Wednesday night a group lurked in the shadows. They robbed six people in less than an hour.

One woman was stabbed in the arm, a man was stabbed in the stomach and another man was slashed across the face and beaten.

In total there were four separate incidents.

Police say the injuries were not life-threatening.

Richard Sabsay whose apartment window overlooks the square told CBC News the area "is both dark and sketchy."

"On a nightly basis there's several groups of gangbangers who congregate here," he said.

The robberies happened between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. in the park courtyard, which is not only near one the main downtown intersections, it is also right across the street from Toronto Police headquarters.

"Judging by the weapons that were used and [what was] said, we believe we are looking for the same five to seven suspects," said Const. Victor Kwong.

The suspects are all described as black, in their late teens or twenties and wearing mostly dark clothing.

They were last seen running away from College Park.
