Parking meter fee hike proposed

The Toronto Parking Authority wants to charge drivers more for metered parking.
The head of the authority will ask council's government management committee next Wednesday to approve the higher rates.
The parking authority proposes that:
- The rate for machine and metered spaces that currently charge $3.50 per hour be increased to $4.
- The rate for machine and metered spaces that currently charge $2.50 per hour be increased to $3.
- The rate for machine and metered spaces that currently charge $2 per hour be increased to $2.25.
All prices include HST.
If the proposed changes are approved, the average hourly rate of metered parking will be $2.13, up from the current $1.92.
The authority expects the changes will result in an additional $3.7 million in net revenue. The current rates have been in place since 2007.
