A male driver has died from injuries he sustained in an accident involving a flying tire on Highway 400 on Monday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Dave Woodford said a vehicle going south on Highway 400 near Bayfield Street lost its tire, which then hit a Dodge Caravan travelling north.

The male driver of the minivan was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Two other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The northbound lanes were closed for several hours, but were reopened in the mid-afternoon.
