Environment Canada has issued a strong wind warning for most of southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area this weekend.

"A storm system is forecast to strengthen significantly as it tracks toward and across Southern Ontario," the statement says.

Very strong southwest winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour are possible, some gusts exceeding 100 kilometres per hour in exposed areas along the shores of the Great Lakes.

Winds will begin Friday evening and carry through Saturday as a cold front moves from west to east across southern Ontario.

The winds are forecast to continue through most of Saturday and become more moderate by Saturday evening.

The storm will bring a range of significant weather to southern Ontario, including the possibilities of rain, possible freezing rain and even thunderstorms.
