Three Toronto women have been arrested in the Dominican Republic and are accused of attempting to smuggle more than 18 kilograms of cocaine on a Toronto-bound flight.

The woman are identified as Carla Lopes and Daniela Maria Ruggiero, both 29, and 38-year-old Violeta Teresa Pluas.

All three work for the same company, Trader Corporation.

A spokesperson said the company is aware of reports of the arrests.

Local media in the Caribbean country reported that the three each allegedly had more than 400 small capsules hidden on their bodies at Punta Cana International Airport.
