A verdict expected Wednesday in the beating death of a Barrie, Ont., teen vacationing in the Dominican Republic has been delayed until March 12.

Jordan Morrison, 19, was killed outside a resort nightclub in Punta Cana on Feb. 4, 2011.

Witnesses have said Morrison was attacked after he had come to the aid of a woman in a bar who was spit on.

Canadian citizen Dmytro Aref Yev and Algerian national Bouzid Redha, who were both 21 at the time, could face up to 20 years in jail if found guilty of homicide.

Their lawyer has said the men were drunk at the time of the fight and did not intend to kill Morrison and that the death was an accident.

Members of Morrison's family travelled to the Dominican Republic to hear the verdict on Wednesday, but the judge rescheduled it to March 12 after lawyers for one of the accused failed to show up.

This is the second time a verdict in the case has been delayed. The family expressed frustration in December, when the verdict was pushed back after a delay in transferring one of the accused to the courthouse.

A family friend who spoke to CBC News on Wednesday said members of Morrison's family are upset about the delay and feeling emotionally drained as the trial drags on.
