A head-on crash on Highway 427 claimed a woman’s life on Monday night.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CBC News that the two-vehicle collision occurred just before 9 p.m., in the southbound lanes near Derry Road.

“It appears that both vehicles sustained quite significant front-end damage, which would indicate a head-on type of collision,” Schmidt said.

Police determined that one of the vehicles was headed northbound when it crossed over the centre median and struck a southbound vehicle.

The vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway.

A 54-year-old Woodbridge woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been driving the northbound vehicle.

No names have been released.
