A woman died early Friday morning when her SUV collided head-on with a transport truck north of Toronto.

The 26-year-old woman apparently lost control of her vehicle on Mount Albert Road near Newmarket.

Police say icy road conditions were defintely to blame for the accident.

A freezing rain warning is already in place for a wide swath of southern Ontario — for areas of southwestern, central and eastern Ontario.

School buses were cancelled on Friday in Peterborough, Durham, Caledon and Dufferin County because of the icy road conditions.

And the poor road conditions in and around the GTA are going to continue through the weekend.

Toronto, which has been mostly spared any inclement weather this winter, is set to get a reminder of what winter's all about on Saturday.

A wintery blast will bring snow and high winds.

The snow will not add up to much, just two to five centimetres, but it's the winds gusting up to 70 km/h that has forecasters concerned.

The blowing snow and wintery slush could make for challenging driving conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for Saturday.
