Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has released the identity of the man killed in a shooting that injured two others and involved Toronto police officers along the Caribbean Carnival parade route last weekend.
Kevin Murray, 30, of Ajax, was fatally wounded "while interacting" with Toronto police officers following the carnival festivities near Ontario Place on Saturday, according to the SIU.
A second victim who survived the shooting that injured one other person, was named as Megan Martin, 21, of Pickering. Martin underwent surgery for a gunshot wound and is recovering in hospital.
The third victim was Amit Boodram, 18, of Scarborough. Boodram was considered an innocent bystander in the shooting, and was slightly injured when his eye was grazed by a stray bullet. He was released from hospital on Sunday.
The SIU, an arm's-length agency, is called in to investigate cases in which police are somehow involved in a death or serious injury.
Two officers are leading the investigating and have so far interviewed 21 witnesses to the fatal shooting. The SIU is requesting pictures, videos or audio-video recording that may have been captured in the area around the entrance route to Ontario Place when the shooting occurred around 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
People with tips can contact the unit at 416-622-1806 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 1806.
