A man died after he was pulled into a pasta-making machine at Pasta Quistini in Toronto on Monday. (CBC) The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating why a 26-year-old man who died while working at a Toronto factory on Monday was performing maintenance on a pasta-making machine while it was running.
The man, whose name has not been released, died after falling into a pasta-making machine at Pasta Quistini, located at 1700 Ormont Dr., near Weston Road and Steeles Avenue West.
A ministry spokesperson told CBC News the machine was running when the accident occurred. The plant has been ordered to cease operations while the investigation is underway.
John Cartolano, brother of plant owner Elena Quistini, said the victim was engaged to Quistini’s daughter.
“This was her future son-in-law, and they were very close,” Cartolano told CBC’s Michelle Cheung. “The boy was a very good boy. Very dedicated to the family and his work so it’s affecting all of us.”
