Drivers can fight some parking tickets by email

Toronto drivers saddled with parking tickets will soon be able to fight some of them by either email or fax.
The City of Toronto announced the change in a Monday release, saying it will make things more convenient for motorists by cutting down long lineups at court.
Drivers can now send the disputed ticket by email or fax, along with supporting documentation to the city.
However, the new procedure only applies to certain tickets:
- Those issued from broken service machines
- Those that were either improperly printed or displayed.
The list does not include parking tickets given out during rush hour.
If the ticket does not meet the cancellation criteria, drivers will have to either pay up or have their case settled in court.
Currently, anyone who wishes to fight a ticket has to first go in person to city-run counters, regardless of the type of infraction or the nature of the dispute.
The city estimates the change will affect around 40,000 people a year.
