Don Cherry has been offered a free bicycle from a Toronto bike shop, days after he labelled the city's cyclists "pinkos."

Curbside Cycle Shop, a Bloor Street bike shop in the Annex neighbourhood, penned an open letter to Cherry Friday.

"We'd like to take a little egg off your face and allow you to (literally) do a bit of backpedalling," the shop wrote in a letter posted on its website.

"In a blushing shade of ironic pink, this bike will be customized to your own remarkable style … We're asking the city to choose their favorite Don Cherry pattern — whether it be a plaid, a floral, or what-have-you."

Cherry made his "pinko" remark Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony of Toronto's new mayor, Rob Ford.

The celebrity hockey commentator was wearing a floral pink suit jacket as he gave a rambling speech that offended many in the council chambers, including Counc. Adam Vaughan, who turned his back to Cherry.

"Well, actually, I'm wearing pinko for all the pinkos out there that ride bicycles and everything," Cherry said before adding Ford would be Toronto's greatest mayor.

"Put that in your pipes, you left-wing kooks," he said.

Some Torontonians, like the owners of Curbside, have seized the opportunity to make a buck off Cherry's colourful language. Buttons and T-shirts bearing the "pinko" tag were put on sale by local businesses shortly after Cherry made the comments.

Ford has made disparaging comments about cyclists in the past, often grouping them in with the downtown elite he routinely blasted during his campaign.

Cherry, who echoed Ford's attacks on the "left wing," was asked to pick up his bike in person at Curbside, so he could join the owners for a latté.
