Two of Canada's leading law firms, McMillan LLP and Lang Michener LLP, announced Tuesday they will combine into a single firm under the name McMillan, effective Jan. 1.
"The new firm will rank among the leading Canadian law firms based on size and reach, offering clients a more robust national presence and stronger international ties," the firms said in a news release.
The combined firm will have close to 400 lawyers with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Hong Kong, providing "complementary product offerings creating numerous opportunities for cross-collaboration and expansion."
The firm is poised to bolster its presence across industry sectors including mining, forest products, oil and gas, financial services, transportation, technology and communications, manufacturing and automotive, the release added.
"This is a great opportunity for McMillan, Lang Michener and for our combined current and future clients," said McMillan CEO Andrew Kent.
"The combined firm, the new McMillan, stands as a truly modern, ambitious law firm with enhanced scope, a deeper bench and a broad range of expertise."

"The new firm remains committed to providing exceptional service and legal advice to current and future clients throughout Asia," said Stephen Wortley, resident partner at the Hong Kong office.
McMillan LLP, founded in 1903, is a business law firm with broad experience in competition law, corporate restructuring and insolvency and financial services in Canada, the United States and abroad.
Lang Michener was founded in 1927 when Roland Michener, who later became governor general, and Daniel Lang began their partnership in Toronto. It has offices in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Hong Kong serving government and business clients.
