Advance voting for Toronto's municipal election began Tuesday.

Former mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson was among the first voters when doors opened at six locations at 10 a.m.

Thomson's name is still on the ballot, but she voted for candidate George Smitherman, who she is supporting in an attempt to keep candidate Rob Ford out of the mayor's chair.

The six locations are:

  • The Toronto City Hall rotunda, 100 Queen Street West
  • The East York Civic Centre council chamber, 850 Coxwell Avenue
  • The Etobicoke Civic Centre council chamber, 399 The West Mall
  • The North York Civic Centre member's lounge, 5100 Yonge Street
  • The Scarborough Civic Centre, Committee Room 1, 150 Borough Drive
  • York Civic Centre council chamber, 2700 Eglinton Avenue West

Eligible voters can vote at any of the locations, for any reason, regardless of which ward they live in. The polls close at 6 p.m.

Wheelchair-accessible touch screens will available during the advance vote, which includes an audio function and braille-embossed navigation buttons.

Election day is Oct. 25.
