Ontario Provincial Police Const. Jonathan Beckett told reporters Sunday that police would not make a direct link between the body and missing Orangeville nurse Sonia Varaschin, but they have been in touch with Varaschin's family about the discovery, the CBC's Kimberly Gale reported from the scene.

Beckett would not say whether the body is male or female, or how long it had been there.

The identity of the individual will not be released until the coroner completes a post-mortem examination in Toronto.

As of mid-afternoon Sunday, the remains were still in the isolated wooded area on the north side of Beech Grove Sideroad about 13 kilometres from Orangeville.

A walker found the remains about 9 a.m. and called the OPP.

The OPP have blocked off the area.

Varaschin's bloodstained car was found behind the town hall on Monday, and investigators have said they believe the nurse met with foul play.

OPP Det.-Insp. Mark Pritchard said Friday police are looking for a cream-coloured or beige sheet and comforter missing from the bedroom of the townhouse where Varaschin lived alone.

The bedding may be covered in blood.
