Two cousins face 408 criminal charges in connection with thefts of catalytic converters from GO Transit parking lots in Toronto and surrounding areas, police in Durham Region say.
The men were identified using surveillance footage from the parking lot of the Whitby GO station, police said Tuesday.
A catalytic converter is a device attached to the exhaust system of an engine to reduce polluting emissions.
Police said they observed the devices being removed from parked vehicles on Friday. It took about a minute to remove each device.
The two men were arrested without incident at the Unionville GO station.
Charlie Williamson, 20, of Millbrook, Ont., and Jay Williamson, 24, of Oshawa, Ont., are facing numerous theft-related charges.
Police said thefts have occurred in Toronto, and Halton, York and Durham regions.
