An Ontario woman accused of lying about having cancer so she could raise money for herself has had her bail hearing put over until Wednesday.

Ashley Ann Kirilow, 23, made a brief appearance at a court in Milton, Ont., on Monday.

Her hair — which she is accused of shaving in order to make it appear as though she was undergoing chemotherapy— had grown back, said CBC's Mike Crawley, reporting from the courthouse.

She was clad in a sleeveless dress and blue shoes with no laces.

None of her family members were present, although two people who described themselves as her former friends attended the hearing.

They said she appeared to look embarrassed, particularly when the presiding judge ordered her not to contact seven people she is alleged to have defrauded.

Kirilow, who has been charged with three counts of fraud under $5,000, will remain in police custody until the hearing resumes on Wednesday.

Her father said she told him earlier this year that she has never had cancer.

Mike Kirilow said his daughter called him on the weekend begging him to be at Monday's bail hearing, but he told her he wants nothing more to do with her.

Police allege Kirilow, a resident of Burlington, Ont., organized fundraisers with the help of others who believed she was terminally ill.

She is alleged to have raised thousands of dollars for herself and a charity she had supposedly established to fund cancer research.

In June, Halton regional police said they received a fraud complaint in connection with her charity, called Change for a Cure.

None of the allegations against Kirilow have been proven in court.
