A 27-year-old man is dead after being shocked with a stun gun by Ontario Provincial Police in Collingwood.

Officers were called to a group home on Saint Marie Street around 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon after a man entered the home and assaulted an elderly female resident, according to an OPP news release.

On their arrival, they found a man and used a stun gun on him after he allegedly became combative and assaulted an officer.

The man was subsequently taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An officer was also treated for minor injuries in hospital.

The province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating and has identified the dead man as Aron Firman, a resident of the group home.
