Drivers travelling in and around the Toronto area can expect major delays over the next few days as the G20 summit begins.

And with the G8 meeting also underway in Huntsville, Ont., travel to the Muskoka region — generally a weekend escape for some Toronto residents — will also be tricky.

Here are the G20 traffic restrictions and advisories issued for this weekend by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation:

G8 summit in Huntsville

Highway 60 will be restricted, with access only for those with G20 accreditation through to Saturday.

The restriction will be from Deerhurst/Canal Road east to just west of Hidden Valley Road.

The ministry recommends using Highway 1 (the TransCanada Highway) or Highway 35 as alternative routes.

G20 summit in Toronto

Drivers can expect lane reductions and significant delays on Highway 401 eastbound in the collector lanes through to Highway 427 at Renforth Drive. At times there will be no access to the 427 southbound express lanes to Holiday Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road.

Also, travellers can expect significant delays on all major highways around Toronto including the 427, 401, Queen Elizabeth Way, Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway.
