Toronto police have identified the teen shot and killed in the city's west end on Monday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Mitchell Leton Celise, 17, of Toronto.
Celise was shot and killed near Oakwood Avenue and St. Clair Avenue West.
He was found suffering from gunshot wounds on Winona Drive at about 3:30 in the afternoon.
Passersby called 911 and tried to help the man, but he later died in hospital.
According to a police news release "witnesses report seeing a male armed with a handgun, described as having a dark-black complexion, 15-18, 5'5"-5'8", with a slim build. He was seen wearing a white, long-sleeve T-shirt, which was seized by police in the area. The suspect was seen fleeing wearing a white tank top, jeans with white design/lettering on the rear pockets."
Helen Apostolopoulus had to wait for hours until she could be allowed into her own house.
She was shocked at such a brazen act in the middle of the day.
"I know the area is a little rough around the edges but I didn't think it would happen, like right next to my street," she said.
Marisa Cabral says the neighbourhood is getting more dangerous.
"It used to be really good, now it's just messed up. I don't know what's up with these kids nowadays," she said.
Homicide investigators say they believe Celise was in the company of two males prior to the shooting and are asking them to come forward.
Celise's death marks the city's 14th homicide of 2010.
