Toronto police have released security camera images of two men suspected of robbing an elderly man on a subway last weekend.

Yusuf Hizel, 79, had his wallet stolen in a mugging that happened on a train at 8:30 p.m. ET last Saturday. Police say there were about 25 people in the subway car at the time.

Hizel called out for help but nobody assisted, according to police. Hizel tried to fight off the muggers, but they held him down and rifled his pockets. He tried to press the emergency alarm but couldn't reach it.

The suspects fled the train at the Chester station on the Bloor-Danforth line. Hizel chased them but the pair escaped.

The crime shocked the city and left police in disgust.

"It's pretty low when you start going after senior citizens to grab a few dollars," said Toronto Police Staff Sgt. Mike Cannon.

On Thursday, police released images and a security camera video of the suspects leaving the Chester station. Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella said the video puts police much closer to identifying the culprits.

"At the end of the day in cases like this, people will call us," said Vella. "Family members, friends, co-workers, and that will help the investigation to identify who the two people are."

Police describe them as about 20 years old and about five foot eight. Hizel's wallet was found later outside the station on Danforth Ave.

His money was gone but his identification and credit cards were intact. Hizel was badly shaken by the attack but not seriously injured.
