Toronto police have released surveillance footage of a brazen robbery in which an ABM was nabbed from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre last month.
(Toronto Police Service)
(Toronto Police Service) The footage, taken with surveillance cameras at 4:43 a.m. on Feb. 20, shows a black pickup truck driving right through the glass doors of the Front Street W. building. The video shows two men hauling the bank machine to the truck and tossing it into the back before they zoom out of the building.
"Obviously it was a professional hit, if you want to call it that,” said Toronto police Const. Tony Vella.
Vella said the thieves were in and out of the downtown building in minutes, and drove off with thousands of dollars.
Caroline Hubberstey, a spokeswoman for Interac, said bank machines are not easy to steal.
“In Canada, theft of ABMs is quite rare,” Hubberstey said. The video captured the image of two men in the parking area, but police said neither of the men have been located.
People with information are asked to contact police at 416-808-5200, or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
