Police released this image from a security video of two suspects wanted in connection with the theft of jewelry from a dying woman at Toronto East General Hospital. Toronto police have arrested a man in connection to the theft of a dying woman's jewelry.
Isaac Lewkowicz, 29, from Toronto, was arrested Wednesday night at a residence in Ajax and faces charges of theft, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of heroin and marijuana, and failing to comply with probation. His alleged accomplice, Marcos Marinoni, 26, remains at large.
Two men were caught on a hospital security video sneaking into an unconscious woman's room in the palliative care ward at the Toronto East General Hospital. About $7,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the woman.
Rocky Prosser, head of security at the hospital, said such thefts are rare.
"We increased our patrols in all areas because, let's be honest, all our patient control areas can be targets. These individuals that did this, knew exactly what they were doing," Prosser said.
Police said video footage helped investigators identify two suspects. Const. Tony Vella is urging Marinoni to turn himself in.
"A lot of people are calling in and providing us with information on the identity of these two men. Now the officers are going through each individual tip and following up," said Vella.
Police are looking into other similar incidents and said more charges could be laid.
The family of the terminally ill woman hopes that the arrest will help get her jewelry back.
