Jackie McGregor-Einboden with her five-month-old daughter Kendra. (CBC)Jackie McGregor-Einboden, who lost her husband and daughter in a weekend house fire at the family's Toronto home, spoke publicly Thursday thanking those who have supported her.
McGregor-Einboden's husband Ken, 44, died trying to rescue his 12-year-old daughter Britney from the fire on Sunday after getting a younger daughter, five-month-old Kendra, outside to safety.
Supported by her two sisters, McGregor-Einboden stood outside her former home and said she was thankful for the kindness of strangers.
"This is what I have left to hang onto for the rest of my life," she said holding baby Kendra.

Ken Einboden was home alone with his two daughters when a fire started in the kitchen of their home at 14 Kemp Square, in the Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West neighbourhood, and spread to the rest of the house. No cause has yet been determined.
Britney was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children immediately following the blaze, but died Monday afternoon.
"I did everything I could except I couldn't do nothing for Britney," McGregor-Einboden said through tears.
"I told Britney I would do everything for her, but I could do nothing for her when she lay there, and I waited for her to pass away. It's the hardest thing you can ever imagine doing with a child."
The family had been struggling financially when the tragedy hit.
Einboden was out of a job, while McGregor-Einboden was on maternity leave caring for Kendra. The family didn't have renter's insurance.
Although McGregor-Einboden never asked for any help, she said she's been overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity from complete strangers.
She said she will tell Kendra her father was a hero.
A funeral for the father and daughter is scheduled for Saturday.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is expected to announce more details about the fire on Friday.
A trust fund has been set up for the family through the RBC: branch number 5812, account number 5037684.
