The president of the Toronto Humane Society and other senior staff facing animal-cruelty charges have had their court cases put over until Feb. 2.
Tim Trow and four senior staffers were arrested Nov. 26 during a raid by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Lawyers representing the five appeared in court Monday, and none of the accused were present.
The humane society staffers were charged with animal cruelty, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence of animal cruelty and obstructing a peace officer.
Last Thursday, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrested two other men in connection with the investigation.
Trevor (Tre) Smith, a former agent with the society, was to be charged with impersonating a peace officer and perjury, and Mark Beauchamp, an OSPCA agent, was to be charged with obstruction of a peace officer.
The shelter was closed until Jan 4, when several animals were adopted, but the fate of about 800 more remained in limbo. Adoptions have started since then with some animals, but the OSPCA is still assessing the health of other animals and investigating conditions at the shelter.
