The weekend death of an inmate at Toronto's Don Jail is being treated as a homicide.
Police responded to a call for help at the jail at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
"Correctional staff located a man with obvious signs of trauma," police said in a release.
Kevon Phillip, 24, was taken to hospital, where he died later Saturday, police said. A post-mortem will be carried out Monday.
Police did not immediately offer any more details.
The death, the city's first homicide of the year, comes almost two months after the killing of 32-year-old inmate Jeff Munro.
Three men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his beating death on Nov. 6.
The Don Jail, located near Gerrard Street E. and the Don Valley Parkway, usually holds prisoners who are awaiting trial or sentencing.
