Syd Silver Formals, long considered Canada's top tuxedo retailer, is closing its doors after 82 years, according to a report.

The chain will soon close all 17 of its stores nationwide and lay off almost 100 staff. The company opened its first store in 1927, when it set up shop in Toronto near the intersection of Yonge and College streets.

Court documents filed earlier this month showed the company owed $4.5 million, the Toronto Star reported. The liquidation process is expected to begin next week.
