RCMP in Alberta have received an unconfirmed report that missing Toronto teen Mariam Makhniashvili was seen in Grande Prairie.

The 18-year-old has been missing since Sept. 14.

The latest tip is that she may have been seen in Grande Prairie on Dec. 2 at 9:40 a.m. at a hotel, RCMP said in a release Friday. However, when police arrived to check a female's identity, she had already left.

This is the second purported sighting of Makhniashvili in Western Canada.

She was reportedly seen trying to sell aboriginal dreamcatchers and other crafts to several local businesses in Okotoks, just outside Calgary, on Oct. 27, her birthday, police there said in a release.

RCMP are circulating Makhniashvili's picture in the Grande Prairie area, said spokesperson Cpl. Carol McKinley.

Makhniashvili was last seen by her family when she left for school with her brother Sept. 14. When she did not arrive home from Toronto's Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, her parents began looking for her and contacted police.

The parents said there was no dispute that would have prompted her to run away. Her father, Vakhtang Makhniashvili, told CBC News he believes his daughter was kidnapped.

The family and Toronto police are reacting cautiously to possible sightings.
