Toronto police are looking for five people in connection with a kidnapping and extortion case.
Three men were kidnapped at gunpoint near Martin Grove Road and Rexdale Boulevard area in northwest Toronto on Nov. 11.
One man was kidnapped at gunpoint that Wednesday evening but later managed to escape, Supt. Ron Taverner told reporters. Then just before midnight, two other men were taken, also at gunpoint.
One of them was bundled into a car and driven along Highway 401. He struggled with his captors, who stopped the car, and the victim managed to escape, police said.
The other man was held overnight at an apartment building, where he was assaulted and tortured, Taverner said.
The kidnappers asked him for cash and drugs, then released him the next day, he said. Police believe the kidnapping cases are linked.
Dustin Brandejs, 22, and Amrinder Chhokar, 26, have been arrested and face multiple charges between them, including assault with a weapon, kidnapping and making death threats.
Police are still looking for five other people in connection with the incident who have no fixed address. They include:
- Mark Anthony Barreiras, 29.
- Shawn Jermaine Tyrell, 24.
- Bryan Robson Taylor, 23.
- Patrick Anthony Anderson, 22.
The fifth individual is a 17-year-old girl who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police had initially revealed her identity after obtaining special authorization from the court. But that authorization expired Monday, and the girl can no longer be named.
Taverner said none of the suspects obtained any money or drugs.
