Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, arrived in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon, kicking off the Ontario leg of their visit to Canada.

A grey Canadian Forces plane carrying the royals touched down at Toronto's Pearson International Airport at around 2:30 p.m. ET, after a three-hour flight from St. John's. As the plane came to a halt, a Canadian flag and the royal standard fluttered from an open cockpit window.

Upon disembarking from the aircraft, the two were greeted by Ontario Lt.-Gov. David Onley, Premier Dalton McGuinty and his wife Terri, and an assortment of other dignitaries.

The royals then left in a motorcade to meet the premier privately in downtown Toronto.

Prince Charles met with members of the group Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, while the Duchess of Cornwall toured the Royal Conservatory of Music at the University of Toronto.

The two then attended a reception organized by the province at the Carlu — atop a former Eaton's department store — later Wednesday evening.

On Thursday morning, Charles and Camilla will visit Hamilton's Dundurn Castle. The castle was built by Sir Allan MacNab, the duchess's great-great-great grandfather, in 1835. McNab later became the prime minister of what was the province of Canada from 1854-1856.

Charles and Camilla began their visit to Canada in Newfoundland on Monday. It is the prince's 16th tour of Canada and Camilla's first.
