Fire officials are examining the remains of a number of buildings in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake after they were destroyed by fire on Sunday.

It's believed the fire started in the basement of The Copper Leaf, a gardening store on Queen Street in the historic Ontario town. It spread to other nearby businesses, destroying The Butterfly Gallery, Shaw Leather and Sotheby's Realty.

Firefighters from Niagara-on-the-Lake, as well as from nearby St. Catharines, were called in to fight the blaze.

They managed to contain it to the stores on Queen Street. Four people lost their homes, though there were no injuries.
