TFC effort spoiled by last-minute Quake

(Frank Gunn/Canadian Press)Just four days after being eliminated from playoff contention, the San Jose Earthquakes all but spoiled Toronto FC's chance at a playoff berth Saturday in Toronto with a 1-1 draw.
After a scoreless first half, Toronto FC struck just two minutes into the second half to appear en route to a victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Dwayne De Rosario's brilliant cross at 47 minutes found Canadian forward Nana Attakora streaking to the back post. San Jose keeper Joe Cannon hesistated and gave Attakora the opportunity to finish the play.
Only a minute later, TFC almost struck again as a Chad Barrett header was tipped to safety by Cannon and resulted in a corner.
Toronto held on to the lead until late past the 90-minute mark but in the second minute of extra time, disaster struck for the home team.
After a blocked shot by TFC defender Jim Brennen, the Earthquake got the equalizer from Cornell Glen at 92 minutes.
TFC's next game is Oct. 17 at BMO field against Real Salt Lake.
