A Grade 10 teacher at Toronto's Jarvis Collegiate high school has been charged with trying to initiate sexual contact with two teenaged boys.
David Dewees, 32, was arrested and charged Thursday with two counts of invitation to sexual touching, as well as two counts of luring, Toronto police said. Dewees is accused of making "inappropriate contact" with the boys online, police said in a release.
Dewees is alleged to have committed those offences at the Ontario Pioneer Camp in Port Sydney, Ont., between July 2008 and July 2009. He's been a volunteer counsellor at the Christian camp since 1997, Det. Bill McGarry told reporters Thursday.
The two boys are both under age 16, he said. Neither of the two lives in Toronto.
McGarry clarified that while Dewees is accused of soliciting sexual contact, police believe no actual touching occurred.
"At this time, we have no information to suggest that Mr. Dewees has had any contact offences with any child," he said.
But he added that "we want to reach out to any other potential victims who have yet to come forward."
Dewees is due to make a court appearance Friday morning. He has taught at Jarvis Collegiate since 2003.
