Ontario driving examiners, DriveTest to resume talks

The union for Ontario's striking driving examiners has agreed to return to the bargaining table, says the managing director of the firm that runs the province's driving test centres.
The two parties are scheduled to resume talks next Wednesday, Paul Dalglish of DriveTest said on Thursday.
DriveTest estimates that 4,000 people per day have not been able to obtain their driver's licence since almost 600 Ontario driving examiners represented by United Steelworkers Local 9511 went on strike on August 23.
The last time driver examiners went on strike was in 2002 when they were still Ontario government employees and the strike lasted eight weeks.
The province has made several arrangements to reduce the public impact of the strike, including extending the expiry date of any licences that require a test for renewal.
"This strike is hurting both our employees and our customers," Dalglish said Thursday night. "We want to find a fair resolution to the outstanding issues so everyone can get back to work."
