Caribana organizers have shifted this year's music festival from Olympic Island to Ontario Place. (CBC)Toronto's Caribana festival has become the latest victim of the strike by the city's municipal workers.
The after-parade music festival, usually held on Olympic Island, is going to be moved to Ontario Place because organizers say they just can't take the chance the strike will still be going on when the event is held on Aug. 2.
Trying to get thousands of music lovers to the island would prove impossible, since ferry service to the Toronto islands is radically reduced because of the strike.
Stephen Weir, one of the Caribana organizers, said Monday the group had to make a decision.
"We've given up as far as holding an event on the island. It doesn't look as if the strike is going to be settled in enough time for us to hold our Sunday event. So we are going to move it to Ontario Place," said Weir.
Organizers say the music festival usually attracts between 6,000 and 10,000 people.
